Asking for a friend. He’s looking into possibly buying a used Taurus Police Interceptor (V6 Ecoboost, AWD) preferably in white. We’re both located in Virginia. Any recommendations on where to pick these up second hand?

I’ve seen a few on eBay. Maybe try a government auction site?

IIRC the Crown Vics would get retired at 90k generally, so the options may not be all that plentiful yet (when did they start using these again?). If you see one with less than 90k on it, I would be wary of why it was being retired early.

I’ve been eyeing these too. Yet to see one come up for auction that sold for less than 9500 which is too rich gor me. Chargers are coming down in price and getting more plentiful.

You think you wouldn’t have a problem finding a cop car in Virginia. Hmm...

Why a cop car (just out of curiosity)?

If you want a cop car, you gotta get it yourself. Haven’t you played GTA? Just wait for them to be distracted, press triangle, and get ready for fun! Good luck with the wanted stars, though. Don’t forget to try the Vigilante missions, they can be really fun!

Right now they’re still pretty new, so you won’t find many government fleets getting rid of them. Chicago Motors is okay but expensive. Crownvic.net has a few members who can order a new Interceptor, but I don’t know about used.
Your best best is to keep checking the Manheim public auctions or your local PD auctions.

Makes me wonder if there’s a way to get retired cop cars where I live.
Off to the interwebz!

Is he looking for a lightly used cop car that he’s willing to pay a decent amount for (but still way less than a civilian version) or a super cheap abused one?

OK, so apparently 3 years ago they sold their remaining WRX’s (lots of them had been totaled) when they switched to the Mégane RS. But they all had over 200.000 km on them and were trashed.
I guess it’s a bit like buying a rental car, you know exactly that this car has seen things.

Around here the shadier dealerships and corner car lots seem to have some old Interceptors on the lots. Haven’t really seen any Taurii yet, but I haven’t really looks/driven through the ‘hood lately.

Most LE branches of the Government has very poor fleet management skills, so they get rid of cars around 30k-60k and some of the late 2013 cars are already there. Check government auctions.
In other words, they retire cars while they’re perfectly well and replace them.

Wouldn’t an AWD ecoboost cop car be close to SHO spec minus the fragile bits for not that many dollars? That actually sounds fun.

It’s not ecoboost as it comes up 3.7L on the vin check, but this dealer in Texas always has out of fleet government cars.
